지식의 나눔과 사랑의 더함, 저작권 기부운동
책/따/세는 지식을 나누고 사랑을 더하는 저작권 기부운동을 전개하고 있습니다
저작권 기부운동이란 자신이 쓴 책 중에 한 권 이상을 인터넷에 무료로 공개하여 누구나 자유롭게 읽을 수 있도록 하자는 운동입니다. 마을 사람들이 공동 우물을 자유롭게 활용하는 것처럼 누구나 인터넷에서 자유롭게 책을 읽도록 전자 도서관을 만드는 것입니다.
이런 운동으로 저자는 자신의 지식(책)을 나누면서 사랑을 실천할 수 있습니다. 현재 국내외 저자 백 여 명이 이 운동에 참여하고 있으며 앞으로 더 많은 저자가 참여할 것이라 기대하고 있습니다.
그리고 저작권 기부운동은 전문 저자뿐 아니라 일반 독자, 청소년 등 누구나 참여할 수 있습니다. 특히 책/따/세는 청소년들이 저작권 기부운동의 취지를 이해하고 동참하기를 바라고 있습니다. 청소년들은 매 방학마다 발표하는 책/따/세 추천도서를 읽은 후 독후감을 쓰고, 그 독후감을 저작권기부운동 홈페이지 게시판에 올리는 것으로 저작권 기부를 시작할 수 있습니다.
나아가 책과 관련된 사진을 찍거나 영상을 만들어 기부할 수도 있습니다. 이런 다양한 결과물을 기부할 수 있는 통로를 만들어서 많은 이들이 공유하고 지식에 지식이 더해지는 선순환을 만들고자 합니다. 또한 실제로 책/따/세는 청소년을 저자로 키우는 책쓰기 교육을 꾸준히 실시하여 청소년이 각자 책을 쓰고, 그것을 기부할 수 있도록 도와주고 있습니다.

[운동소개] 저작권 기부운동 소개(영문)
2. Book Guru (www.readread.or.kr) is a non-governmental organization for teachers who envision better reading education. Our ultimate goal is to make children happy while reading books. And through it, children will learn instructive knowledge/information and wise values such as lives of people and cooperating with people.
3. To achieve our goal, in 2007 we started 1 Author – 1 Copyright Releasing Campaign called Open Your Book, Open Your Heart!

5. If we succeed in the attempts to reach our goal, we will expand our campaign’s range to all kind of books. In hopes this project will spread throughout the world and stand against the advanced nations that try to deepen the poverty and cultural barriers by extension period of the copyright protection.
The first step to reaching the world is that we beg your participation in the campaign so that young people would have a better reading environment.

♦ What is 1 Author – 1 Copygift campaign?
1 Author-1 Copygift campaign is a cultural work that opens one book of an author’s for the public as an electronic book on the internet, further this is accomplished upon author’s approval.
In our society, this could help the reading culture to become meaningful due to easy access to the books. Recently, the school libraries are being activated but young people in our country do not have enough books, hence we need electronic books rather than paper books in the future.
♦ What is “Copygift”?
To us, copyright that we request you release means “right for transmission”. Therefore, authors do not have to give up all the earnings from the copyright. Copyright releasing will only be valid on the internet.
Also, authors can choose if he/she allows all or fractional rights about copying and publishing materials. Electronic books can be allowed anytime, of course.
We want to make green library that shares knowledge and love.
♦ Is it a kind of a “Copyleft” campaign?
It is similar but different to Copygift. At the beginning of this campaign, we wanted to help unfortunate teens that cannot access books easily and called it “Copyleft”. But as many authors participated in our campaign, it attracted love that was passed down from the older generation to the younger generation. In essence, the campaign surpassed the original concept of sharing the book and added love.
Our teachers in Book Guru also opened their books to the public. Moreover, we made and attached “A Plan for Better Reading” to each book the authors have released. The main spirit of the copyright campaign is to share knowledge plus the love.
♦ Who are with us?
We were surprised when we pleaded authors to participate in our campaign because many of them accepted Copygift without hesitation. This is the list of people who approved our Copygift campaign. There is no specific system in the listing below and we expect more authors will join us. Many foreign authors will participate like Mr. Kensiro who released his masterpiece .

♦ Can we join this campaign if we are not the authors?
Of course, we welcome anyone who agrees that young people should be supported to read books.
There are various ways to contribute your support, for example, when teens read released books and write about it, you can encourage and leave a comment for them. Further you can assist our internet equipments to make this system better. Also, meeting our young people who read the released electronic books would help tremendously.
Additionally, many publishers form a complete electronic book, electronic books manufacturer (Booktopia), special publishing broadcasting (on book-TV), and design group (AGI) are with us for free.
♦ How will you develop Copygift campaign?
We will make first series of books whose copyright was released recently, and we are going to announce at least two books each month.
Moreover, to make our Copygift campaign more creative and vital, we will gather various ideas and host special events. Also, cooperate with foreign authors to make this Korean campaign global and cultural effective.
This is against the policy of advanced countries that are trying extend the copyright protection period from 50 to 70 years after the author's death. We think this policy will create a deeper global poverty and cultural barriers. We strongly believe that our campaign will stop this unequal policy and develop our cultural awareness and become a global campaign.
We will make an independent organization at a proper point of time to spread our campaign to the world and obey its decisions. Copygift Campaign should not be a campaign only for Book Guru, rather for all of us.
♦ What are the points in our campaign?
Unveiling Copyright Campaign is an environmental movement because we use electronic books instead of paper books. Moreover our campaign distributes knowledge and love like the relief goods of UNICEF.
Also, unveiling copyright campaign is an innovative movement which will create new reading culture by reading electronic books. It will help our young people to get a great reading education through sharing books, cultures, and information.
♦ What is Book Guru?
Book Guru (www.readread.or.kr) is a gathering of teachers who worry about reading education, and recently changed to a nonprofit organization. We will develop and arrange the information, and create database and methods to establish green library for our young people. Our ultimate aim is to let all the young people around the world to enjoy many books and learn valuable lessons of life from it.

♦ What do we do if there are other questions?
The most important thing in our campaign is a will and intention for sharing author’s love. It is natural to respect and love authors who released their cherished copyright for ours out people.

We allow anyone to use Copygift Campaign homepage anytime and anywhere which means you can use the homepage without joining other sites to connect with Book Guru's homepage (www.readread.or.kr).
Also we secured a separate internet address to develop Copygift Campaign for read cultural campaign in our society. We pray that many people can use this web page.
You have to sign-up on the Book Guru’s homepage to use it. Of course there are no limitations to join. You can use all the datas that are on the homepage if you do not have commercial intentions.
♦ Episode 1
1. The responses of authors who agreed to the Copygift Campagin and Book Guru agonize in happiness.
The responses of authors who agreed to our campaign without hesitation were various and splendid.
There was a author who was willing to release all his books and another author transmitted his books as a form of HWP immediately. One responded in just 5 minutes with total agreement, and one author said that he will tell others about the campaign. An author gave notice that he will standby Book Guru and much more.
2. Reading these letters, we deliberate each letters happily.
If you release all of your books, it can bring pressure on other authors. The HWP files are good, but we need the edited files which the publishing company agreed. When you reply too quickly, we worry that you might have not the mail carefully. It is important to agree with us voluntarily and not by cultural force to put good deeds ahead. We are thankful for your endless reliance and support toward us. We will keep the public trust and nonprofit purity that we have kept.
♦ Episode 2
It was difficult to invite authors who are the beauty in our culture and intellectual society. Some writers who was asked to write faster for our event finally caught a cold and was absent for the meeting. All of you have had a hectic schedule like attending a foreign institute, catching a flight on the day of, giving a lecture in another country, giving a lecture at a graduate school, meetings at the beginning of the month, giving a warm reception for a guest from other country, making questions for the conference, and etc.
We express special thanks to all who attended our meetings in spite of busy schedules. We are grateful because we know that you like to read and write at ease. These love, interests, and encouragements are the drive that made the Book Guru to start the Copygift Campaign.
We will show the world that we can be beautiful with love and intelligence, and create special warmth in the world with books.
♦ Episode 3
There was a little girl who read The Environmental Story by Yearl Choi and wrote an environmental diary for 4 years during elementary school. That little girl ended up getting accepted into the Korean Education School and became a teacher as well as a member of the Book Guru. This teacher saw the author Yearl Choi on the Copygift list and she told the episode. With surprise, we heard that Mr.Choi was coming in by plane early in the morning and hoped that he could come to the environmental fundraising event. Despite our hopes, we have to wish for them to meet each other some other time. Due to our great minds in the Copyright Campaign, we are making the world a warmer place with sharing books. We wish the books that you read be a great present for your heart and soul, and we anticipate our world to become beautiful by more books.
♦ Our dream is to make the world warm with book and make people's life affluent and beautiful.
It is Book Guru’s dream that anyone can read books with endless joy. Further, reading should not be measured with grades, rather should be a evolution of culture. When we get minimum infrastructure for reading, we can make the world warm with books and surpass just to enter a good university entrance and fight in during this information war. Book Guru will make an effort without a commercial intend and strive forward to reach our young people to make a warmer world with books. Thank you.
1. Book Guru? Oh, Book Guru!
There are two different responses to the Book Guru. One, people do not know Book Guru. A journalist for a major newspaper mentioned that Book Guru is a strange-named organization for teachers. However, many people do recognize Book Guru. A lot of people who pass by Book Guru booth in 2005 International Book Fair recognized us. It seems like Book Guru has received a reputation lately. The number of members who joined the Book Guru’s homepage (old www.readread.co.kr new www.readread.or.kr ) is approximately 30,000. We think Book Guru can affect hundreds and thousands of people including their families. Moreover, people are becoming more aware of Book Guru through papers, broadcastings, and or magazines.
2. Why Did We Make Book Guru?
Book Guru is an organization to support building a Green Library for young people in 2010. For some people, they might think Green library is unnecessary. Nevertheless, many of us are skilled managers for a school library, and we think we can do better and make school libraries the leader of school education. Thus, we can make many teens study with joy at the school library, but there are many barriers such as the desire to become the greatest school library and feeling iffy about Book Guru.
“Yes, we can make it.”, “We can make an ideal library for teenagers!”, “We are experts!”, “Yeah, we established an awesome school library.”
Many of us are teachers and have managed school libraries for a long time in private schools, and others established school libraries for public schools. Teachers at public schools have to transfer every couple of years, so it was easy for us to make decisions and build an organization.
We can do it! We have plenty of time, so we should build it perfectly! How many years will it take to build a perfect organization?
By asking these questions, we decided to establish a library in 2010, but would this one library have any significance? Definitely, an ideal library for young people will be a "must-go place" for them. But if some students have limited access to the library like children who live in the mountains and or small shore villages, what will we do for them? After an endless discussion, we thought of a great idea which is to build a library, and we show the progress to others so they can build a similar one. Let’s share information, knowledge, and build a "mother library" so that similar libraries can be created.
Someone asked, “Is this a library just for students?” Yes, we are teachers who teach students, but we do not limit particular group of students. Teenagers working at an industrial complex on Guru should be served at our library. We thought of this idea when we were in college and decided to build a library for all students. Book Guru’s activities are all related to this goal.
We came to a conclusion that in order to bring more effectiveness for our goal, we need various people who have a desire for a better book education and not just teachers. In addition, it is important to work outside of school. Book Guru started with teachers, but we went through a complete change to NGO and renamed our organization. There are about 50 executives at Book Guru, and they are not just teachers, but parents, college students, retired officials, and citizens.
3. What’s Book Guru Doing?
What kind of a library will it be? A library for every teens even those who works at the factories. No one will be discriminated and will share same information with equal rights. We want equality to be our main slogan for our library.
We have mission statement as stated below and when we introduced ourselves. This paragraph shows our purpose and direction.

We made a list to realize our goal and this list will help you to understand our purpose and direction.
First we should make a reading list for teenagers. We will select today’s classics, Books of the Month, Books of the Year; and we will create a list of books for young people who dislike reading. Second we should manage our homepage (www.readread.or.kr) constructively. Taking care of our homepage will encourage teenagers read and discuss about the campaign. Third we should develop a program for teenagers who live far away from the library and advertise it. School libraries are the place of learning and teaching which should overwhelm the private academies. Fourth we should make programs for teenager, teachers, and parents like "Travel- reading" programs. Fifth we should work together and work with many people who are enlightened. For this, we should carry out many study programs for teachers and young people. Sixth, we should plan programs that connect with foreign school libraries. We should make seminars for teachers or visiting other countries. In short we should plan and explore many programs to widespread the importance and the methods of reading.
4. Book Guru is My Energy!
We hold meetings every Friday near Hongik University. Many people come together from various places, some near Seoul and some very far away. One teacher who lives in YangPyung was supposed to catch the last train home but ended up going the next day due to our meeting. It actually takes little time to get together, we start and wait for each other from 6:30-8:00 P.M. During our last meeting around the same time frame it feel as though that time was a waste with gossips; nonetheless, it was a great opportunity to communicate for new ideas. Moreover, it is joyful to meet congenial friends and have dinner together. Our meetings are quite different from regular company meetings because we have a great time together and often we go pass 10:00 P.M. talking and discussing.
Book Guru holds meeting that is similar to executive’s conference. Sometimes members of the Book Guru’s website come but this is unusual because we do not have enough time and the energy to be a nationwide organization. We have to proofread, edit, and read all of books but we have hard time finding people to do these tasks. Nevertheless, there are few people who are willing to be with us; many parents, retired officials, and college students attend the meetings. If you want to join us, we always welcome you. There are no membership fees, but you should donate 20,000 won per month to build library for the teenagers. Attending meetings are not necessary.

Our project is filled with things to resolve: redesign our homepage to share results of meetings, creating reading list for teenagers and share our know-how to others, publishing tutorial pamphlet, advertising Book Guru to find new members, cooperating with other organization to create desirable reading culture, and we have find ways that could possibly prevent us from achieving our goal.
Book Guru is my energy! No matter how heavy and frustrate we get, we cannot give up. Book Guru should lead a desirable reading culture. We are not alone and will not wear-out. We are happy to be with young people and we sincerely hope to establish a library for them.
